The one, lone smoke stack from the Willys Overland plant in Toledo is all that remains of the original factory. There was some talk about turning the area into a big off road course to celebrate the Jeeps 75th anniversary a few years back, but, of course, those plans ran smack dab into the recession. But, the new Jeep plant is just to the north on I-75, and it's busier than ever with the new Cherokee and Wrangler.

An offroad park is such a great idea...except the funding it part. I REALLY want one, but the one they had near me closed down about the same time The cruiser specialty shop shut their doors. Its a sad reality that people don't want to pay to get [their vehicles] dirty

Yeah, the city tried to get Chrysler to fund part of it, but the timing was really bad, with Chry/Co just coming out of bankruptcy and the merger with Fiat. A dealership just north of Toledo, in Monroe, MI, built a smaller course to show the off-roading skills of Jeeps, but I've never seen a Jeep going through it. I think it's just a promotional tool that looks good, but is very seldom used.

Poor Jeep peoples. Even Camry owners got their own track.

I've been putting a business plan together for a combination Jeep museum and park...once it is organized, I am planning on submitting it to the City and to Chrysler to see if there is any interest (not that I actually WANT to run a non-profit, but hey, who knows).
A Jeep playground is part of Phase 3, though I was planning on using the land across from the Docks for it with a shuttle service up to Toledo North Assembly as well.
